The Khor Virap is an Armenian monastery located in the Ararat plain in Armenia, near the closed border with Turkey, about 8 kilometres south of Artashat, Ararat Province, within the territory of ancient Artaxata. The monastery was host to a theological seminary and was the residence of Armenian Catholicos.

St.Hovhannes-Karapet’s monastery complex is located in the Ararat district. The monastery’s St.Astvatzatzin Spitakavor church was built in 1301. It is a vaulted construction with a rectangular shape. Ascending from the only western entrance, there is bas-relief created by bishop Sargis. To the south-west of the church there is a bell-tower (now ruined) dating back to the 14th century, and to the west attached is a three-storey church-mausoleum. Preserved here were the remnants of the water-supply and the pool. There are cross-stones on the monastery’s cemetery with richly developed decor.

Stop At: Cathedral of Aruch, Aruch Armenia

Cathedral of Aruch or Surb Grigor is situated on a rocky plateau at the western foot of Mount Aragats in the village of Aruch in the Aragatsotn Province of Armenia. According to wall inscriptions on the east wall and manuscripts written by historians Ghevond, Hovhannes Draskhanakerttsi, and Stepanos Asoghik, the church and adjoining building for residence (the palace) were commissioned by Prince Grigor Mamikonian and his wife Heghine/Heline between 661-682 AD.

Architecturally it is one of the most important Armenian churches of the Middle Ages and also one of the largest.

It is assumed to have been constructed during the late 7th century based on the architectural style. Abandoned factories are real hidden treasures that Armenia inherited from Soviet Era. These are exceptional attractions full of unusual machines and objects. Perfect for Instragramers!

After the collapse of Soviet Union in 1991 Armenia faced difficult times. Most of the big factories had to shut down their doors and were completely abandoned. Nowadays it is impossible for those factories to revive as the industry and technology have far been developped. At present their main function is to stay as beautiful as they are now. They have become great attractions for those who are interested in history, engineering and architecture or just to experience an off the beaten track in a really unusual place once in Armenia.

We are happy to give an opportunity to our travellers to discover ghost factories in Armenia.

The tour is being held in Lori Region 140 kms far from Yerevan

The tour starts form the Republic Square at 09:00 am.

Even though the main goal of this tour is to discover an abandoned soviet factory we will have other attractions to visit on the way like the most popular bakery in Armenia and Kobayr Monastery.

Our guide and driver will pick you up from your hotel at 09:00 am. one way is about 140 kms, it may seem a lot to cover but the advantage is that the guide will have plenty of time to tell you about Armenia's history during Soviet Era.

You will have a little stop in Vanadzor City where you can see on of the biggest Chemical Factories in Soviet Union. 

And then when we arrive at the factory near Alaverdi, we will be guided by a local who is preserving guarding the abandoned factory. He will explain us what was the main activity of the factory and we will discover with him its different facilities. 

After lunch we will get back to Yerevan.
